When you play, your body moves to the beat of the music. What if you could use that motion to add expression and excitement to your sound? That's exactly what the wireless eStrap does! A radio transmitter mounted in the strap senses the motion of your body and the instrument and controls your sound effects in real time.

Imagine, when you grab that note on the 20th fret and bend up, a wah filter sweeping up to accentuate the tone. Imagine playing a growling blues rhythm with tremolo, controlling the speed and depth by simply moving the neck a little. Imagine hitting the last screaming note of a song, and effortlessly engaging an echo repeat.

That's exactly what you can do with the eStrap.

Ned Steinberger realized this and we have worked with him to make his vision a reality. The result is one of the most fun-to-play innovations in years.

How do I use the eStrap?

The eStrap consists of two elements: A high quality motion-sensing guitar strap with radio transmitter, and an effects controller with internal radio receiver.

Simply, the eStrap replaces a wah-wah or expression pedal in your existing rig.

One button on the strap turns the system on and off. There are no foot switches on the eStrap controller, but you can still use the foot switches in your existing rig. The 'wireless' feature of the eStrap does not have anything to do with your guitar's audio, but only transmits instrument motion. Continue to use any cable or wireless guitar transmitter as you do now.

Old Tech Effects 21st Century Effects

On the left is how guitarists from the 16th century controlled their effects, using foot pedals. On the right, modern musicians control their effects using innovative devices such as the eStrap, freeing their feet for constructive uses such as dancing to the beat and jumping off of amplifier stacks.

On the floor (or on your amp) is the eStrap effects controller. Your guitar signal runs through the effects controller, if you want to use the built-in classic wah. Or you can connect the effects controller to another effects unit as if it were an effects pedal.

To engage the system, click the button on the strap. A light on the strap turns on. The effects controller is notified via radio, and processes the motion signal from the strap. It also sends a control signal to external effects unit, if connected.

The system adapts to heavy and light instruments. The physical range of motion can be calibrated on the fly for many different playing styles and effects.

To turn off the system, click the button on the strap again. The effects controller switches to transparent bypass mode, with no noise or distortion added to your signal.

How does the eStrap differ from an effects pedal?

The eStrap differs from an effects pedal in that it uses your natural body motion while playing, not your foot. The foot is not the most musical part of the human body. But while you are playing, your instrument is in constant motion as you play chords and bend strings. The eStrap harnesses that natural motion to add another dimension of expression to your performance.

How does the eStrap affect my tone?

If you use the eStrap's internal wah, you'll get the classic wah sound. There are also switches on the effects controller that tweak the wah response without wiring changes. A wide range of tones is easily accessible. We wind our own wah-wah inductors to vintage specifications, and test every unit for tone and performance.

If you use the eStrap controller as an external expression pedal replacement, the tone will be dependent on your effects unit, as before.

How does the eStrap affect my performance? The revolutionary eStrap connects more of your body's movement to your performance. The eStrap will add mind blowing sound effects to your playing, but the biggest rush is that it is FUN to play! The possibilities are endless!

In contrast to other new effects devices, the eStrap requires no unnatural motions. It works with your normal playing activities to enhance your performance. But if you want, you can move in strange ways to get new sounds and be theatrical at the same time!

Video Notes

We filmed this video in our shop using the guitars shown. The wah sounds were produced by the eStrap effects controller and routed through a DigiTech multi-effects unit for distortion and reverb. The pitch shifting and tremolo effects were produced by a TC Electronics G-Major processor, being controlled by the eStrap effects pedal output. No foot pedals or foot switches were used to change sound effects while the guitarist was playing.
